The red arrow in this picture shows the end piece I'm using which comprises of a PVC 1/2" slip joint end cap glued onto a length of 1/2" PVC pipe. My spring (shown) is somewhat short and I only left about 1/2" of the 1/2" PVC pipe so the end cap can flush up to the piece directly to the left which it will be glued to. Even this short length will make my spring tension to be somewhat loose and will require a spacer or a visit to the hardware store for a longer spring. I chose to use a simple spacer as seen in the following pictures. This end cap will be drilled and threaded for a hose fitting before assembly.
